Since 1999, I have been shooting images of working people in Toronto. Most are connected to the Toronto and York Region Labour Council. I now have a data-base of photos that reflects the changing face of Toronto's Labour movement. Also documented in my images are the "$10 an hour campaign", and the "Made in Canada", the fight to have Toronto purchase subway and streetcars made in Ontario. Other images include the Toronto Labour Day Parade, Aboriginal and Workers of Colour Conferences going back several years, April 28, Day of Mourning ceremonies, peace marches, strike picket lines, political, and Solidarity demonstrations.
In addition to the Toronto, and York Region, labour council, I have shot photos, both freelance, and on assignment for the: CEP, ONA, CAW, Steelworkers, CFNU, United Nurses of Alberta, BC Nurses Union, PSAC, CUPW, OFL, CLC, UNITE-HERE 75, IFPTE, SEIU local1, CUPE, Carpenter's local 27, CAW local 112, SMWIA, and both the Ontario, and Federal NDP conventions.
As an Artist it was a privilege to take part in The Féile An Phobail Festival, (West Belfast Festival) in Belfast, Ireland from July 30 to August 7, 2004. Here is a pdf (down below left) of the program, I'm on page 26 in English, and page 27 in Gaelic. My show was titled "Images of Social Justice and Portraits of Peace." Started in 1988 this is now one of the biggest festivals in Europe. Click here and you'll see four of the montages that I created just for the Festival, shown in Belfast.
My montage art is inspired by John Heartfield, who lampooned Hitler, and other fascists, during pre-war Germany. More recently by, the late Richard Slye, and Toronto's Brian Davis, whose humor, and sense of social justice continues to inspire me.
To check out the costs of my montage art, and my photography please click here. I have developed hand crafted cards with photos of my art and images, that can be used for any occasion. They are five for $25. These make very nice gifts. I can customize using your own images. Just click on Art Cards and to see photos of the cards and some other montage art.
